Question DII, blown auto oil hose

Well 730k's into my trip to Adelaide and about 1km from my first stop over in Mossman and my auto's oil cooler hose spat the tranny oil all over the side of my disco and the front of my camper.

Anyway, another tow later. I have found that the hose has blown off at the swage, just before the quick disconnect joint to the oil cooler. I cant release the hose at the quick disconnect ! Is there a special tool required for this or is it just a very hard pull ?( I cant really see much down there at the side of the road and dont want to pull the intercooler hoses off if not required)

I was hoping to just remove the hose and install a new one. But if I cant undo this quick disconnect I will have to take it into the dealer,,,, about a hundred k's away

    HELP

Grrr, I'm king of blowing these hoses.

The ZF runs full pressure through the cooler when the torque converter is locked up - thats up to 125psi!!!

A friend has just had it fail at the same spot also and managed to use cable zip ties to hold it together long enough to get home.

With the quick connect to the cooler, it fills up with crud. You'll need to clean it out with fluid until all the grit is out and then it'll free up. Don't get any water into the ATF though.

I've just pulled out the parts to check. That black plastic ring is the release mechanism. The problem though is that it gets a whole stack of crap under it and that prevents the release from working. Its exactly the same as the stupid fuel line quick releases. If you can get your hands on a syringe or something to inject water, spray water under high pressure into the back of the quick release mechanism and try to flush the crap out. The mud makes it stick. When you've done that, the black plastic ring should slide backwards and forward which releases the hose. When you pull it back towards you, that is then in the release position. With it pulled back you will then have to jiggle the whole connection back and forward until it pops out.

By just pulling on the hose you wont get it off. Its all high pressure fittings in there, and you will ust end up breaking the hose that comes off the cooler.

I've checked the RAVE disk also, and there isn't anything terribly specific about releasing the quick connect in there except some talk of a screw in the connection, but I dont think my one had that as far as I could see.
    Cheers

    Slunnie,
Thanks for the Zip tie tip, the panduit's worked a treat and got me from Mossman to Adelaide .

The car is in having the hose repaired at the dealers now. The rear seal on the auto started leaking again(5th time in 112000km's) on the way down so that is being fixed, and the fuel regulator was found to be weeping as well.

So all in all it was probably good that the hose went when it did,,, The warranty runs out in November and the car would not have been into a dealer before then. They are fixing all this under the extended warranty I didnt have to ask or argue or cry or anything..... Am I in a parrallel universe or something. TIC
