That was me trying to hold everything in place to make the puller stay and work. As soon as I hit it with the angle grinder it was all very easy.Originally Posted by Ace
Stephen, make sure you get a haft from a Disco or LT230 Rangie.

Matt, do you want the flange before the Expo ?
If so, can you make it to ZigZag on Saturday morning ?
If not, I'll bring it along to the Expo.
Scott

Slunnie i just need you to answer a couple of questions.
1) I can see in your photos where you made the cuts, but once the cut is made and that thing has been removed is it needed to refit the new 4 bolt flange?
2) Once the thing has been removed how difficult was it to get the nut undone? I dont have and air gun will a breaker bar do the job?
3) Once the nut is undone what is required and how much effort is required to get the 3 bolt flange off?
4) When i fit the 4 bolt flange do i just carefully tap it on with a hammer and then do the nut up or is there a trick to it? Matt

Gday Ace,
1. The bit that comes out it the centralising peg that goes into the middle of the old tailshaft to make sure it remains centralised and vibration free. When you replace it with a Uni jointed 4 bolt setup it wont be needed as the unis will self centre.
2. The nut was undone with a rattle gun, but our rattle gun is a pretty low powered unit. That bolt isn't done up with a lot of torque anyway as it presses against some bearings. This said, you may need the CDL locked, handbrake and low range while you swing off a breaker bar under the car to free it up.
3. The 4 bolt flange will just slide on, and likewise the 3 bolt flange should also just slide off. They are fitted on a spline, and if you use an early OE 4 bolt flange it will also need a spacer ring. The torque setting I just did by an "about that much" measurement, though a torque wrench is a better option, set to 100Nm. There are no tricks though, its quite literally unbolt, slide off pinion flange, slide on new pinion flange, replace nuts and washers, torque up to 100nm and you may want to use some antivibration loctite.

Certainly can! As long as you pull their front DC shaft for me while you're under there!Originally Posted by Ace

I've got to do this to my bushranger before I toss in lifted springs.
What's the best donor shafts from genuine LR's?
I know one model has a front shaft with a double cardan joint on the t'case end and a single one on the diff end, but which one? Discovery 2 maybe?
And the rear shaft, are the auto's the same as the manuals for fittings and length?
And for the shaft conversions, do you need the donor vehicles output flange from the t'case?
