If reverse is up next to first it is an LT77S gearbox. If reverse is under 5th it is an R380. You can substitute the R380 for the LT77S, but you might need extra bits and pieces.

    Lt77

If it's a manual -(And provided it comes from the same type of engine - Diesel's have a shorter input shaft) then they should be a straight swap.

Provided it hasn't been abused, it should last as long as the R380

Been on ebay have we??? is your box knackered, if not why upgrade i have an LT77 behind a 6.2l diesel and has done 140k since bearings and synchros, so they are not as weak as most persist, YET they do have small bearing and they are a small box so if abused they will die

Its a bolt in conversion. GCs did it for me on my old Disco 200tdi.

Just get one out of a Disco not Defender. The gearshift is in a different place, and too hard/expensive to convert.

    Having said that, when I had mine done, D2s weren't around. I don't if there's any detail difference between R380s out of a D1 and a D2.

    thanks all for your replies.
Turns out the kit (yes I found it off ebay ) was for a v8 not a diesel anyway.
But it's all good anyway now as I've had my trans/clutch problem investigated into and it turns out that the previous owner put a new clutch in without lubbing the Thrust bearing coupling. It was absolutely mashed and had spread bits everywhere. So a new one of those, a new clutch, new slave master and various other bits... ! turns out to be an expensive noise to fix!
