Possibly too heavier load on it from a discharged internally shorted battery? Arlecs do cycle on & off under certain heavy conditions so maybe your has cycled off & said "bugger it".

Do they/some work when disconnected from the battery?

If the battery is one of those new lead calcium batteries, you need a charger that can pump out quite a few amps from what I am told.

I must be a dead battery day.

My Besco couldn't crank the Tdi this morning...down to 10.8 volts but I've only doing short trips on the weekend.

So off to get a newy..a Supercharge (580 CCA $130) Got it home and realised that the terminals were on the front side and not the rear of the battery. The cables just reached .

The Besco is now charging and after 7 hrs is back to 12.8 volts.

Hopefully it has survived and I will now have an auxiliary to wire up.

    Hope your's revives Pedro.

Last time I had that symptom it was a loose fan belt, nothing wrong with the battery. Too often people assume that since the battery is flat it must be the battery at fault, whereas quite often something else is the real problem. Even short trips should not flatten the battery on any modern car provided the charging is working properly, it starts easily, and you do not have a lot of extra lighting (extra lights or higher power bulbs).

    Fair comment John.

I will test the charge voltage tomorrow and see what the alternator is discharging.. In my case the Tdi alternator runs off the main belt so it is unlikely to be the belt as it is well and truely tensioned. But the alternator might be below par.
