    Bouncing Speedo Needle

I have a puzzling intermittent problem with my speedo. Occasionally the needle will start bouncing, it can be when the vehicle is stationary or moving and the odometer is unaffected. I'm thinking that it's a spurious pulse emanating from who knows where? .......check out the video.
    Any thoughts anyone?

I saw the trip meter click over while it was doing that dance. Are you *sure* the ODO isn't affected?

Brilliant !! - I never noticed OR even focussed on the trip meter…, my attention was always on the odometer. I see now that if I was prepared to gaze at the odo for 2 to 3 minutes I would indeed see it advance 1 km.

Thanks a million - that’s got to get us closer to the cause.

One thing I can think of as brother had a similar issue:

Do you have a speedo corrector(like the Hunter Di product)?
Could be it's connections or something, or it playing up.

Brother fitted a Jaycar type that kind of worked, but had this bouncing issue when stationary .. it was removed.
(ie. confirmed not to work correctly in the D2).

It’s worth noting that at the time the video was recorded the vehicle was stationary, and with no wheels rolling that means no road speed signals received at the SLABS but there was pulse from somewhere triggering the speedo.
I do have the Hunter DI speed correction unit and the wire connections are all ferrule crimped then connected via miniature screw terminal blocks for an absolutely positive connection.

    .....
    Yep!
This is one of the anomalies brother was getting in his D2 with the Jaycar unit.
Coming to a stop the unit appeared to work fine and would sometimes work as per normal, then sitting there it would randomly show some speed(up to about 40k/h IIRC) and or bounce a little, other anomalies noticed was that as you came to a slow stop, speedo would just sit at say 40k/h even after you actually stopped too.

brothers' never went as high as 160k/h, and I'm only going off memory here, but maybe 40-60k/h. it would do randomly weird stuff like bounce around or just hold steady at say 60k/h .. odo would always operate too.

I would bypass the C6100 unit and see if that stops it.

Actually, it’s not a frequent occurrence, can go for months before it happens again….
I will look at spacing the signal input and output wires apart from each other or shielding one of them, or maybe just twist them together.

when my wife starts her car , both speedo and tacho make a full swing of the dials and back to zero then the car starts, not sure if it does same on autostarts......may be a related signal.

My late model Subaru does it too - but it’s a new trick for my ancient Discovery 2 Bouncing Speedo Needle
