what sort of pressure doe's it run at? you can get clamp type hose clamps these will handle higher pressures,or get them crimped by pirtek that way you are sure they won't leak.
Hi all, the lines running from the oil filter assembly to the oil cooler are leaking like a hole filled bucket, i was planning on taking them off and going to pirtek to get some similar oil line and some hose clamps to replace the leaking sections of rubber line. My question is will the pressure in the system be to strong for the hose clamps and will it just leak again? I dont really want to buy new lines if i can help it, according to the 4wheeldrives price book they are $70 each and both are leaking. Matt

Go the Pirtek route and have them make the connections with their pressure fittings...some have done this. It will save replacing the metal components as well...next time. The swaged connections fail. Mine failed after only 9000 km after replacement.Originally Posted by Ace

Had a similar thing on the D1 I had - called the local LR dealer - he suggested I didn't get the replacements from them as they would start leaking again in 12 months. He suggested going to a local 'pressures hose' maker (EnZed and the like)Originally Posted by Ace

all this for half the price of original LR spares.
Never leaked again - well until I rolled the bugger into a ravine !!!!! and then I am still not sure if they leaked then.
No worries, thats what i had thought just wanted to check, i was going to take them to pirtek anyway but wanted to doube check before i buggered around taking them off, will pull them off tomorrow and take them in. Matt

I dont think that a pump in a manual gearbox could work up any sort of pressure like an auto.
YES GUYS,the manual gearboxes do have an oil cooler fitted if the towpackage was ordered from new.
Go hoseclamps for now,once you can afford it go Pirtek.
BUT do get some advice that agrees with mine first PLEASE.

ace, if the oil leaks are in the oil cooler to filter lines, then you don't have to get too excited.
there is nothing in the engine oil system over 100psi, an ordinary hose clamp will stop that!
cut off the offending hose's and replace with hose that is suitable - not bloody heater hose!!! and secure with good hose clamps.
i have my power steering hoses to the cooler replaced with the same deal,
hose that is suitable for the fluid and hose clamps.
remember the oil cooler cannot handle 100 psi, so the oil pressure in that line must be much less.
if you are trying to replace factory swauged hose/pipe combinations, just cut off the hose at the swague [can't spell tonight] and fit the hose and hose clamp at that point.
in most cases you do not have to get pirtek or similar to make a new hose.
the most important thing to remember here is the working pressure of that system, and most are about 30-40 psi if going to the oil cooler in the radiator.
but i have to **** cover to prevent you being a new age non trusting soul, so check your manual.
and if you don't get swaged fittings, then when it stuff up in the bush, anyone will say 'aw, shucks, lets just put another hose on it'

Those oil lines are a know problem (In fact, I carry a set as part of my spares kit). LR changed the design (or it could have been just the supplier) a couple of years ago and are now much more reliable.
A specialist should be able to make some up for you

There is a reason why race cars and aircraft don't use worm drive clamps on critical lines like oil lines, they are unreliable. For a bush fix, no worries, but for long term peace of mind I voted with my cheque book.
