if you give the wipers a bit of a "helping hand" does that get them moving....?
the grease in the motor and the gears dries up and hardens making it difficult to move......
it may be as simple as this......or it may be a burnt out motor.....
Anyone know of a common fault with series 3 wipers?
Mine just packed up, both sides, but there is power to the switch on the dash, i tried combining the wires, but it still dosnt wanna run?
any ideas?
just my luck in winter!

Given Lucas electrics the likeliehood is a wiring problem, possibly the earth on the motor itself. The other likely problem is a mechanically problem such as the grease in the gearbox gone stiff or the wheel boxes jammed.
Provided the fuses are correct (unlike the 2a which is essentially unfused) the motor is unlikely to be burnt out, although it could have stuck brushes.
But my guess is that the problem is essentially a wiring one, and is a bad connection. For example, an inoperative blinker on my 2a yesterday turned out to be a bullet connector, and this is the sort of thing I would look for.

Mmm, mine can have difficulty in shifting sometimes, maybe fresh grease is the way to go. Is it a hard job?Originally Posted by DEFENDERZOOK

Sometimes it's as simple as the ground cable coming off the windshield. I had flipped my windsheild down one day, put it back up and lo and behold, no wipers. I went as far as pulling the motor off a scrapper only to notice the ground cable hanging down between the window and top dash.
Check there first, it's obvious but so is pluggin the toaster in.
Wow... I did the exact same thing in my SIIISometimes it's as simple as the ground cable coming off the windshield. it started to rain so I put the windscreen up, bugger, no wipers. Had to put it back down again and drive with my eyes half shut ( rain stings @ 40kmph)
