Range rover Steering Drop Arm ?
Morning All, just a quick bit of giudence for a weekend project,
The steering in the range has felt a little vague, prior going Os the other month for 10 weeks , had a look under the car, and found the bolt holding the drop arm had losened , a turn or two, gave a quick tighten , all seemend good,
this weekend , getting back under to tighten properly, wanting to know , Is the drop arm a wear item, and should be replaced or a tighten with new lock washer and some loctite, be enough
Thanks In advance

The drop arm should be removed , the splines cleaned, and replaced with a positive lock plate underneath and lots of loctite.
I think the tightening torque is about 200Ft lbs, but look it up. You need lots of muscle . If its been loose for a while you may be cactused as the splines can wear.
I looked at a 80 Rangie one day , and the bloke said that he only drove to 80 Kmh as the car was unstable. I looked under the front and the drop arm was half off. I found this level of incompetence pretty amazing.
I always carry the correct socket , so I tightened it for him. Problem solved. The lock plate tags should be bent in OPPOSITE directions.LOL.
I hate to think what would happen if it let go. Thats why the lock plate.
