    I've done dozens of timing belts in other cars by 'feel' when tensioning with 0 failures. How crucial is this 'exactly 11Nm' thing?

    AFAIK, the tension was reduced to reduce the side load on the injection pump shaft bearings.

    IMHO, you need the dial type tension wrench, and can not accurately set the tension with a beam type tension wrench, as once the torque is reached, you have to hold it while tightening the lock bolt. And the type that 'snap' when the torque is reached would be impossible.

    Unfortunately the dial type are very expensive.
