    Tdi injectors

    Does anyone know how to tell if the injectors need replaceing?, can they be reconditioned instead?. Are there any noise's or other tell tale signs that something is not quite right?. My Tdi has done 272,000 and i don't know if they have ever been looked at.

    Never had a set that needed attention but from a couple of mates experiences they said the exhaust gets smokey, hard starting, rough running, high fuel consumption, poor power.

    Both guys I have spoken to were able to have their injectors reconditioned, one set Nissan and one set Perkins. I don't know if Rover ones can be reconditioned but I suspect they can be.

    Other comments would help me down the track as mine have done 115,000km and I guess sometime in the next 5 years mine might need attention (I hope not).

    Hope this helps.

    the only way to know for sure is remove them and have them tested.
    AFAIK, most 300Tdi ones can't be rebuilt, the body is crimped together.

    FWIW, mine are coming up to 195,000km and the beast is still running as good as ever, although I regularly dose the fuel system with a cleaner/lubricant (Redline RL2).

    I asked this on the tech forum a while ago.

    Just leave them unless;

    1) Your car is blowing excessive smoke, more so than similar Diesel disco's with lesser km's.

    2) Excessive fuel comsumption is occuring, i am getting between 10-12L/100km from mine which is mostly short trips and around town, and mine has done 200000km.

    3) The car is running poorly.

    They cant be rebuild, replacements are in the vacinity of $200, each not for a set of 4. Matt

    when i had my injector tweaked i asked about replacing the injector as the motor had done 200K, they sail no need and put an injector cleaning through, they also indicated they cannot be rebuilt, i'm returning around the 11L/100km

    When I overhauled a 300 Tdi to put in my rangie, I took the injectors to a local diesel specialist.

    It was a while back, but from memory they can be dissasemble and serviced up to the second stage. Also they can only test the 1st stage.

    My brother has a pajero and because the injectors were leaking or not atomising properly, the oil was washed from the cylinder walls and he had to get the engine re-bored. It would have been cheaper to service/replace the injectors when they needed it.
