    Narva accessory plug wiring

    G'day all,

I have a narva accessory plug 82106BL http://www.narva.com.au/Switches_Power_5.html that I need to wire up. It has 2 connectors, but nothing telling me which is positive or negative.

My question is - excuse my naivity - does it matter in this case? I am trying to fit one on the end of my engel fridge 12v adapter as my camper only has the narva accessory sockets - no cigarette lighter sockets.

    Help please!

the centre pin should be the +ve terminal......
the outer part is the -ve.......the same as a cigarette lighter plug/socket....

use your multimeters or test light to confirm its not wired up backwards or the fridge wont work....
you may even cause damage if you reverse the polarity.....you may blow something in the fridge.......
    before the fuse blows.....

    • Ditto to Defenderzooks comment.
My new Defender has 4 of these plugs in the rear cargo area, two mounted on each rear light cover. How handy. Apparently the plugs for them are called merritt plugs (not sure of the spelling - also called Hella Plugs on ebay). ARB had them for $20ea!!!. They had the combo plugs, that fit into a regular cigarette lighter and have a removable cover so they fit in the heavier duty Merritt plug for $12ea, they're the ones that appear on the bottom of the page you linked to. They don't have as many earth (-ve) contacts, but still have a sizable surface area on the neg. terminal. They're very easy to wire up.

I didn't know Narva made them too, you'd probably get a better price buying the Narva at an auto shop, than the Hella at ARB.

I wired the 240V invertor to a Merritt plug (I had one in the shed), and used the combo plug for the fluro lead light for versatility. I also ran a 12V cigarette lighter style plug on an extension lead from the combo plug to the cargo barrier (behind the back seat), where I attached a 3-way cigarette lighter style power board - Just to increase my plug in options.

Just watch those little suckers! One of the plugs became jammed in my cigarette lighter leaving the adapter bit behind. They really hang in.

    Trev.

The accessory plugs cost me all of $7 each (+ freight) from CaravansPlus.com.au - see http://www.caravansplus.com.au/advan...5f88f5a8eecee4

Thanks for your help / comments guys.
