    Coil Spring fitting

    Hi Guys
In the next couple of weeks I will be fitting a new 2" lift and polyairs to BlackBetty.Never messed with coily susp before.
Any good links or pointers as to how its done. What are the shortcuts and what are the pitfalls?????
We have a hoist at work,am I better off doing it there,I would prefer to do it in my own shed.BETTER TOOLS AND WONT COST ME A CARTON FOR USE OF THE HOIST
I have trolley jacks etc and a WELL equiped shed.
Pedro has asked for a tutorial on how its done,so I will do so.

I find axel stands under the chassis and trolly jack under the diff works well for me.

The last time I chanaged mine i just lifted chassis high, jack up diff and remove the wheels then lower the trolley jack so the axel is at full droop.

If all else fail use a spring compressor - about $25 from Supacrap.

Just watch out for your brake lines at full droop.

    Thanks Guys
    Keep the ideas/pointers coming.
I guess to add to Ralfs point the ABS lines wont like stretching as much as a brake line.

I needed to fully compress the springs... it was a b***h of a job. Crow bars and hours winding the spring compressors. You might need to slightly bend your break line brackets down too!

When you get in though it's a huge Buzz. Different car even with just 2"!.

Unless they are really long springs, disconnecting the shock at one end should allow enough droop for the spring to fall out when you jack the chassis.
If you cant (safely) get the chassis high enough, put a jack under the axle, remove the wheel, then drop the axle while raising the chassis at the same time but you will need two jacks this way. The main thing is to disconect the shock.

You may find your shocks are now too short and droop is limited (while compression travel has increased), unless you put a longer shock on, off-road performance may actually be decreased even though it looks a lot better and more capable.
