Muddies For D90

With all this rain we are having Im thinking of getting a set of muddies to replace the AT 235/85 general grabbers.

Can anybody suggest a replacement, - what do you think is a sensible size ie: no rubbing with stock suspension.

They are NOT intended as a second set just for off-road use, and Im not bothered about tyre noise.

One of the LROC guys told me that 255/75's are probably the biggest you can go with stock suspension. He also said that Bob Janes at Hornsby are pretty competitive on their BFGoodrich's.

Just get on the net and check out the tyre websites. Ring as many tyres places as you can for quotes and get the cheapest. Ace Tyres at St Mary's give discounts to LROC members, i found their prices to be very good. Ask Noddy and Henry what size they are running on their fenders. They are running BFG Muddies and i have to say when we got stuck in Jenolan last year Henry's Fender on those muddies saved us in some spots and he was the only one who didnt need recovering. Matt

From memory, greylandy is on 265/75R16's, which are wider and rub a bit, and noddy is on 255/85R16's, which as far as I know are the biggest you can fit to a stock fender without any rubbing. plenty available in the 265 as they are a common size for other 4wd's. Only about 2 or 3 muddy options in the 255's, and almost everything is available in the stock 235/85R16.

dave, there are more than enough muddies out there to choose from.

i reckon 265's will fit with out rubbing, my 285's only rub on full lock so i cant see why 265's would. ive only wound the steering stops out 4mm.
but rember they dont have to really wide to work well.

Why not 265-75-16 Mickey T MTZs...

So far I cant fault the damn things anywhere....

255/85/16's fit easily (33.3" tall) with stock suspension, as do 265/75's (32" tall and are an option on a 90 OS)
AFAIK, only BFG MT's, Cooper ST's and Maxxis MT Bighorns are available in 255/85.

Mike, with the size tyres you're currently running and the backspace on the rims, have you had to re-adjust the wheel bearings more than 'normal' ?
