    TD5 Fuel Pump GOSS vs VDO/Siemens

    My D2 has 450,000+kms on the clock and as 2nd owner nearly 200,00kms of those are mine. I'm part way through a comprehensive refurbishment and thought it prudent to replace the fuel pump because I don't know the history of the current pump - it could be the original pump although I truly doubt it. Has anyone had experience with the GOSS pump module, yes it is cheaper than VDO, but it is NOT the cheapest offering out there. GOSS do advertise themslves as a premium after market supplier. All comment is welcomed

    Why not leave well enough alone and carry a cheap spare? Get out of jail cheap so to speak.

    My rear carpet was neatly cut along both sides, cut just hidden by the plastic side trim and then just folds up out the way (unscrewing the trim at back where it meets bumper ) and easy access to pump cover.

    You’ve done well! I get about 125,000km I think it is from both factory and VDO pumps.

    I probably will leave it undisturbed and carry a spare, maybe a generic maybe a VDO, and cut my carpet if I can’t slip it out from under the side bins. In another vid I watched it looks like only about an inch or 25mm of carpet is actually under the bins.

    Wow, only 125k…that is disappointing. Did you change the relay and fuse when you changed the pump? there’s nothing to loose in doing it and can only gain by doing so cos I have seen charred but apparently working fuel pump relays TD5 Fuel Pump GOSS vs VDO/Siemens they’ve gotta be compromised don’t they?

    Maybe related and maybe not is the fact that I ‘always’ add injector cleaner at every tank fill. I read that modern low sulphur diesel fuel has lower lubricity and in-turn the diesel additive manufacturers ‘claim’ that that leads to increased wear on the fuel injection and fuel delivery systems all because high compression engines depend on fuel to lubricate and cool sliding contacts. Sounds reasonable so I’ll continue to do it.

    I'm not sure, whatever you're doing seems to be working though. I'm on my 3rd pump now, and the previous 2 went pretty much bang on. I haven't done anything special, just a straight pump change only and fuel is just whatever comes out of the bowser, I've never added any addititives.

    Carpet goes a fair way under the bins, a lot more than 25mm. If its the first pump then you may need to pull the bins out to get the carpet up, and when they do cut it, it is about 25mm under the bins so that it remains neat and you can almost jam it back under if you need to access the pump again.

    Well I’m keeping my mouth shut, and I’ll just whisper the defender has now 260,000 and its still on the orignal. I also add some fuel additive every time. Generally flash lube.

    Moreys is good stuff, I use their oil treatment in the engine religiously. I used to use their fuel treatment, I only changed to flashlube when i used it once, due to the other being unavailable and i found i was getting better economy (only slightly) but as fuel is now over $2 a litre any little bit helps.
