Although you could just say you want to remove an inspection plate:)
I'm so close to buying a Disco I can smell the oil on the driveway
:D:D Fairy muff. Thought it was worth mentioning.Quote:

As I said, "Good luck in your choice".
Now, off to drain & replace the R380 ATF with Redline MT-90.
Bloody job.:(
No worries. I was actually thinking it was easier than you said. It's good to know these things before you whip the spanners out. Especially on someone elses car :nazilock:Quote:

I'm glad my vehicles had LT95s, can't go wrong with them.
Steve Parker mentions the applicable boxes on his website.
The crossdrilled gear & Oil Feeder Plate achieve the same thing.
ie. Get ample oil on to the shaft spline.
Now that I actually have a D1 I am trying to locate a backlash problem that has developed since Saturday night.Quote:

I can see a gear but cannot move the gear at all.
Do I have to rotate the gear I can see to get it to come out or rotate something else?
Thanks
Did you try with the gearbox and t/case in neutral?Quote:

This 'lack of lubrication' wear causing drivetrain backlash happens gradually from the day it is first driven.Quote:

ok I had the gearbox in neutral but the transfer case wasn't. I'll give it another go.
I suppose you are right Harro however this needs to be checked anyway. Plus it sounds like it is coming from that area. I guess I need to get under there with a crowbar and start looking for movement. I have a sneaky feeling the A frame ball joint is on its way out.
