    Change my suspension bushes?

I suspect me OME shocks on my '99 D2 are on the way out but am planning a full suspension upgrade early 2007. In the mean time can I reduce some of the shock tranfer through the car body by changing bushes? I'll be honest I am not 100% sure what the bushes actually are but I have just heard talk of them before and see kits available in various mags. About to also fit 30mm spring packers to overcome the ludicrus sag from the OME springs too.

Any help or info on bushes would be appreciated and best places to buy.

    Aye, Mick

To which bushes do you refer? The shock bushes, or just suspension bushes in general? In our experience the axle locating bushes (control arms / radius arms) in D2s are just about bomb proof and almost never need replacing. We tend not to have to replace shock bushes either, but a new set of shocks every now and then doesn't go astray.

Not really worth it in my opinion. To replace the shock bushes you need to pull them out to replace them so you are just doubling the labour, you might aswell wait until you replace them and new ones will come with the new shocks. There are other bushes under there that can be done like sway bars etc, trailing arms and the like but this wont help your suspension situations. My advice is just wait it out, if it is bordering on dangerous than you might need to replace the shocks now and wait to replace the springs. Matt

All useful information thanks and makes more sense than it did this morning. Recently had the bushes shanged on the sway bars and what difference that made. I assume the bush on the shock is the poly urethane or rubber dounut in the eye? If so, then yes perhaps new shocks are the go just now and springs later. Trouble is when I do the full set up I am going to lift it slightly higher and try and gain more droop so if I fit the eventuial shocks I will be using to gain all this, I may end up damaging them without the rest of the set up.

I reckon suspension set up is a black art.

    Appreciate the comments, Mick

The sway bar bushes do flog out on the D2. I changed mine at about 60 or 70,000km due to the slop in them. The rear shocks are easy to remove on the D2, just a bolt at the top and another at the bottom. The bushes in the top and bottom of the shock, if 1 piece may need to be pressed out, and like wise a 1 piece bush back in.

Cheers Slunnie. Yeah my sway bar bushes were that bad the whole bar was moving side to side when cornering.....huge difference to comfort when they were changed.
