Windscreen leaks - the new one!

I am looking for advice on windscreen sealing. I have had the screen replaced on my 96 Disco because it leaked - the guy resealed it - the screen cracked 2 days later - so out with the old and in with the new.

There was a little surface rust at top of screen - panel beater cleaned all this up and pained - then new screen in.

Now the screen leaks like a sieve. How? Both passenger and driver floors get wet - really wet in a down pour. Before the driver side got a little damp.

I have looked at the screen and there is water under the top rubber flap of the rubber mould. Should this be sealed up? I want some advice on this before I go back to the Screen guy as not sure he knows what he is doing! I certainly don't.

    Help!!! Keith

It seems windscreen doesn't sit properly. Had similar problem on my old sedan after replacing. While fitting it should go in spot with distinctive sound "click".

Or roof geometry distortion issue. Diagonal measuring could show it.

Had a similar problem with mine. The guy who repaired the rust areas had to use a two pac epoxy paint as the windscreen sealer does something to normal paint. That's what they told me. I had the first one replaced under insurance and the cheap and nasty replacement whistled and leaked. It was smashed out by the guy who replaced it, he said LR have a thicker windscreen than cheap replacement one. (Had it measured by LR dealer who tried to get new one in three times and each one cracked 7.5mm vs about 6.5mm) Can't verify that though only what they told me.

On the third attempt the seal was done really well and it hasn't leaked in about 4 years.

Maybe check the rust repair if its out again. Also look at rusty floor under drivers and passengers side now as those leaks cause havoc to the floor.

obriens have had some problems with their screens being cut wrong as the template becomes deformed and rather than being rectangular, becomes more of a parralellogram, the resultof this is that sometimes the corners of the screen don't fit into the frame snugly.
    if it's not o'briens, don't know

Has there been any accident damage to the vehicle or as sujested roof distortion. Dads old merc had to have a windscreen replaced back in 1979 in a small town. He couldn't travel without it due to a verry ill passenger so waited 2 days for the replacement to be flown in. They then foud it wouldn't seal due to warping of the car from an accident a few years earlier. Windscreen had to be specially cut to fit. I doubt this is your problem though.

    Thanks everyone
    No sign of distortion
I saw the rust repair before the new screen on fitted - very clean and no sign of leak issue
So with new seal, new rubber and new screen - it leaks a heap worse.
The source appears to be that water can get under the flap of rubber that sits agains the roof - lot of water under this. Once there it is finding a way in somehow. Seems to me it should be sealed against the roof as well.
Might try a different glass place for an opinion.

Mine leaks heavily too - I assume it's my screen. I had my screen re-sealed also a few years ago and it has always leaked. It's quite bad at the moment.

I stuffed some Septones (I think that was it) windscreen sealer in the top rubber to see if it help, but it doesn't. And no I get this film of crap on my screen from it - do not put any of that sealer at the top! Maybe other brands are better.

But I have also noticed (using a small trigger sprayer bottle) that if I lift the rubbers on the side A-Pillars up and spray in there, I can eventually see water running down the side wall in the footwell. (I have the plastic cover on the side of the footwell out - aswell as the carpet kind of lifted up. I got sick of the puddles so this way it is much easier to dry up! I even leave paper towel sitting there to make it easier.

I've just been too lazy to pull of the wipers, remove the black plastic on the bottom of the windscreen and prove with 100% certain=ty where the leak is. I also know I have a little bit of rust, (and even some on top the A-Pillar passenger side) so it's a bigger job than just removing the screen and resealing for me.

I'll be interested to know what you find. I should really do more investigation. I also painted the floor with KillRust enamel so I don't do any permanent rust damage.
