    power steer pump replacement

finally got all the bits together to do this little job, going to replace some cooling system parts as well, hoses and tank etc.

got my bits from Karcraft and MR Autos, what one didnt have the other did, thanks fellas, the great service from both was much appreciated!

got my fan spanner and hub spanner from ebay, great value for money seeing next to no one sells them up this way. actually found somewhere to buy a 9mm allen key for the pumpshaft, wonders will never cease.

5 mins and i have the fan off, cowling out of the way, whips out the 10mm socket, 9mm allen key in the shaft, attempt to remove bolt, grunt, bigger grunt... mongrel... not a hint of movement, bloody sore hands though....

out with braker bar and bit of pipe.... grunt... GRUNT... dam, still no go..

read manual to make sure not left hand thread...

manual says use loctite on screws.... you gotta be joking...

off to hire oxy bottles in the morning dam it......bloody land rovers

Is the replacement PS pump a BM PARTS ANR2157 <A> ?

    (Loaded question)

BTW I don't remember a struggle with the pump removal when CJ and I did mine.

    Leverage

You don't need oxy - it's just a leverage problem.

Try one of these ( $10 from Supercheap)

Then the 1/2inch drive ratchet should suffice.

unfortunetly the bolts are as tight as the hobs of hell and i can not move them with a 18" breaker bar much less a 1/2" rachet...

the standard bolts are 10mm and i have nearly stripped the head on one trying to undo it. There is obviously the wrong type of loctite under the headflange of the bolts.

the pump shaft has a 9mm hex in the center of it to hold it steady while you undo it...and i was having no problems with it... apart from finding one in the first place :P

judging by the scoring on the bolt heads before i started, someone else had the same problem and gave up at some stage...

i cant see anyway around it other than heat or a chisel.... i prefer not to use a chisel.
