    Shock Q

    Hi Guys
Ive just pulled the rear springs/shocks out of BlackBetty.
Which way do the shocks work? ie on compression or rebound.
Both have no resistance on compression,on rebound there is more resistance,1 is better the other oil can be heard "slurping"
I guess the best place is rubbish binny for these.

They should have resistance on compression, but a lot stiffer when being extended.

I'm pretty sure the OE D2 shocks don't self extend anyway. I think its only the gas pressurised ones that do it. The Monroes, OME's, Konis, bilsteins etc should, but I dont think the OE, Rancho, probably tough dogs etc do.
    Cheers

Only gas pressurised shocks will extend themselves, oil only shocks are valved for both directions and wont extend unless pulled - like something else we wont mention here

(the following doesn't apply to a mono-tube damper, eg. Bilstein)
If they've been layed down at all remember to hold them up right and full stroke them about 4-6 times to prime them otherwise you'll have air in the pressure cylinder (main bore) and this will give you a dud result. Do this before any manual check or refitting them to the vehicle.
Hand stroking them to check is a pretty hit/miss affair as you are only working them on the low speed bleed, but at least you can compare side to side.
