    Question Electric Seats Fault Diagnosis...

    Hi all,
I have a 1992 Range Rover vogue se. The drivers seat controls are the type with memory. At present the switches are not controlling the seat -- but rather are adjusting the electric mirrors. I have checked relays and fuses under seat, to no avail. Any assistance in diagnosing this problem would be greatly appreciated.

When switches start working on different circuits, it usually suggests a faulty earth shared by both systems - but where it is in this case I could not even start to guess, although I would look for a wire going to a screw or bolt to the body - either loose or corroded.

Yes which switches aren;t working ?

The actual adjustments for the seat itself, or the 1 and 2 buttons that select between the different 'memorised' positions ?

Did it start malfunctioning recently / all at once or has it always been that way since you;ve had the car ?

Do the proper electric mirror adjustment switches work as they should ? (ie they don't adjust the seats do they ? LOL )
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

    Hi All,

Gremlins in drivers seat attacked suddenly, had been working fine, memory & manual. Now memory buttons not functioning, fore & aft switch is now operating rhs mirror, recline switch works lhs mirror, dash mount mirror switch seems inoperative, all fuses & relays check OK, cant find an earth point for drivers seat. passengers seat works perfectly.
Getting greyer by the minute as seat is set for me at present and she that must be obeyed is 300 mm shorter than I and needs the car !!

Maybe if you use the switch for the mirrors, the seat will adjust.....

    Unhappy Vogue SE electric seat

    Thanks all, especially spud

I had tried the dash mirror switch to adjust the seat to no avail, wont even adjust mirrors any more, no multi plugs or wiring have been disturbed. This problem occurred suddenly ie, seat worked perfectly when we started on an overnight drive to the Central Coast, when I stopped some hours later to swap steerers the aforementioned gremlin had done its work!
Further inspection (standing on head with light under seat) seems there is a small silvery coloured computer looking box attached to seat base, no doubt where the memory for preset buttons for seat & mirrors is stored.
My workshop manual does not make any mention of this rather expensive looking little box. Has anyone had to replace one of these and if so how many dollars & where did you get it ??

Before you start replacing things u better check what it is, otheriwse it could get really expensive ! I wonder if the fancy diagnostic computer thingy the service places have could tell you anything about this problem ? I'd give a few places a call and tell em the problem they may have come across it before and can steer you in the right direction.

Where are you by the way ?
