 Replacing side windows with doors-110
 Replacing side windows with doors-110
G'day all, I'm seriously considering replacing the two side sliding windows on my 110, with opening-style doors. I never use the windows, although the left hand side does offer side visibility when merging back into that lane, but is mainly obsquered by gear in the back. These opening doors would be hinged at the top (maybe stainless piano hinge), and have some form of assistance to stay in an open position. The original window frame could be left in, for rigidity, or something else could be sorted. A thick rubber seal, compressed when closed, should keep the weather out.
I reckon having this set-up, would offer much more practical access to the rear, and thus allowing better efficiency in load organisation.
I'd be really interested to hear comments from anyone who has had this mod done, or what you think about it!.

Gerry those guys who build the trademate trailers should be able to fabricate them no worries with some gas struts and contoured locks etc as to make it look like a 4 door station wgn.
yep have been thinking of this myself as my fridge slide makes it tough to access the space beside it, one of guys that does trip report for the 4wd monthly mag has them fitted
will watch with interest

Weeds, when I saw that & one up here, I thought it was a great idea!.
I had this side access window made by a company in Adelaide. I dont have the details to hand but I can dig them out. I am very happy with it.
hey karl
looks good, is that a trailblazer fridge
any chance of some close up pics on the hinge, seal and the folds around the edge of the door
Hi Guys
I have been thinking along the same lines but not for the same reasons. (Actually I'm cutting down a pair of County rear quarter panels to make an extra cab on a series truck cab.)
However what I did notice yesterday was one of those fibreglass/plastic ute canopies with windows in the sides, where the glass pane opened up like a tailgate. It had a lockable handle on the outside and gas struts to hold it open.
What is more the rubber mounted aluminium frame of the window was not all that different to the original frame in the County/Defender. I think I have seen similar on NRMA patrol utes, but not with the curved bottom corners.
Unfortunately as I drove past I was too late to see the brand.
Task for this next week - Look for plastic ute canopy with handles in the side and note brand.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
Karl please find the details....Originally Posted by karl

I have spoken to ARB, ~ $380 for one window
asking for dimensions and curve radius.
