Water Pump or is that Pumps?

Tdi 300, was going through my repair manual and it showed 2 water pumps on the one engine is this right? If so where do they pump the water? If one dies can you still keep driving on the other one?

From memory because I'm at work now, it showed it down on the right side of the block. I was wondering how it was driven down there aswell if it is a water pump?

You may be thinking of the vacumn pump on the rh (driver side ) of the block, water pump is on the top lh side ( passenger side ) above the alternator.
