    How do you find it? The bolt did not wish to vacate today but is some play of the harmonic balancer so think I'm up for replacement

    That bolt will be mega tight, and possibly loctited. Do you have/can you borrow a good rattle gun?

    Lol. My 'Waukee 18v, 3/4" one changed mine! That was years ago. These days you don't need to go so big to get the torque. In your situation it does the 'leverage' for you.

    Get as good as you can afford, but bear in mind the battery "ecosystem". All my cordless tools are now Red, but they are not necessarily the best available.

    Handy to have, but 1/2" drive will be sufficient if it's a good quality one. I also have used the Milwaukee Fuel for years in the workshop.

    It's not essential for this job as you can remove the bolt 2 ways.

    1: Fit the large timing pin into the crankshaft slot on the flywheel, then undo with a 24mm single hex socket, breaker bar with a pipe over it, or

    2: Do not fit the timing pin, Take that rag out of the intake, unclip the injector harness wiring, put the breaker bar on top of the lh
    ( passengers side ) chassis, ( turn the engine by hand with the socket and bar until it rests there by itself.)
    Turn the key to the crank position for a second and let the starter motor do the work ( you might have to do it a couple of times.)

    I prefer number 1.

    Number 2 is the reason I got the big rattler in the first place. I have a few tools in my armoury and none would touch it. This was a TDi, but same thing. The breaker bar starter thing didn't either. I looked long and hard at the price tag of the 'Waukee, I can tell you. Got it home, swearing that if it didn't work....... Brrrt, done. Wow. Thing is, it isn't a single use tool. I once had the D1 hung up on a funny angle with a punctured tyre. On a high lift widow maker. I did not want to be jumping on a wheel brace. Bloody 'Waukee had the wheel undone in seconds. As Karl Malden used to say. "Don't leave home without it". Reminds me, the bloody thing is in Qld....

    And yes, a quality 1/2" is prolly more than you'll need.
