hi guys tyre sizes with lift

    hi guys

i have recently put a 2" lift on my disco, so now i'm curious as to what size tyres to get obviously with out rubbing or any cutting needed.......

so what do you run how much and where did you get them from obviously i live in sydney so i'm not going to brissy or perth to get tyres

p.s i'm after a mud terrain rather than an a/t

    thanks

Suggest you do a search there are plenty of threads on this subject.

However generally one size up from standard is about all you'll get away with without some trimming ( eg go from 235/70/16 to 245/70/16. This is on a D1 not sure on D2

A popular size is 245/75/16 but some trimming of rear guards is propable needed.

    hey Dullbird

    I've got 245/75/16 Cooper ST's on my 2" lifted D1
I need to do a camel cut before that tear in the rear guard gets any bigger.

D2 took 265's with standard susp (as a trial) but only just. I'll be fitting 265's now that i have a 2" lift and don't expect any probs..actually LESS probs on account of not bottoming out so often

Like qldv8disco above, I have 245/70/16 BFG AT and I didn't need to modify the steering stops. I have a OME 2inch lift.

I don't think many muddies come in 245/70/16, but I could be wrong - didn't really investigate muddies.

I have a D2 with a 40mm spring lift (some call it 2") and run 265/75R16 BFG muds with no issues what so ever. When first fitted I was concerned as they really filled the wheel arch but I have been running on them for nearly a year now with no problems....great tyre and perfect size for the D2 with a 2"lift IMHO. One thing to remember though as you go bigger is your gearing will be out - by about 10% over standard with the 265/75R16 (31.7"in real terms I believe) I fitted a speedo correction unit which is extremely accurate and allows you to run 2 sets of different diametre tyres if you like.
Also with the 265/75 there is a quite a difference in clearance over standard which is always a bonus off road. From my research, the 265/75 is about as big as you want to go with the D2 on a 2" lift - anything larger and you are out with the grinder or body lift I believe.

Hope this helps and good luck, Mick

I would agree with MickG. I have a D2 with 2 inch lift and run 265/75/R16s with no problems. I have an ARB bullbar and have had to remove the mud guard backing flaps to avoid rubbing.

I was with some of the d2au.com boys when we did a test on disco running standard suspension and the 265's fit. They were worn tyres and the testing was only around town but they were ok..even over speed bumps. I think new tyres being nobblier on a standard disco will rub on steering arms etc though.

There is a recent issue though with DOTORS and vehicle modification rules that means that 265's may not be suitable without a engineers certificate. Dont know too much more about it though...only heard a few comments.

    Cheers

DOTORS rules are only for Victoria though isn't it
