Excess fuel will be black. Blue indicates oil is being burnt.

If you're in doubt about the colour of the smoke, someone behind the bus with an educated pair of nostrils could tell.

yep, 15/40 E7 would be fine for non DPF

That is false. Black is excess but fully burnt fuel. Blue means it is partially burnt. Normally caused by retarded timing.

Certainly worthwhile checking the timing - especially if the injector pump has been removed at any stage.

A calibrated nose would help confirm!

    An old post on AULRO:

Blue smoke from a Diesel, only under certain conditions

Symptoms on page 1, narrative following in various posts, solution on page 3.

I have a newish Deutz tractor (the last of the non electronic era) with less than 1k hours on it.

Gives a very small puff of blue (that smells of diesel) when given a squirt, doesn't use oil at all.

    I'm not particularly concerned.

    cheers, DL
