I have noticed this on mine too. It is really crumbly and most of it has fallen off.
I am planning to replace it with coventional wiring tubing that you can get from any auto shop. I presume this is all that was used in the first place.

I noticed earlier today that the plastic tubing wrapped around the wiring loom within the engine bay is fairly perished due to heat.
Has anyone replaced this tubing?
If so what with?
I was considering just wrapping it in electrical or Gaffa tape but then thought about coating it in fuel line for waterproofing purposes

Er, a cheap but effective option is electrical conduit covering, from a store like "Middy's" or another electrical wholesaler, sealed at either end. This way the wires are protected and you only have to worry about undoing gaffer tape at either end as opposed to unwrapping the whole shebang.
I just used replacement split tube from the auto shop.

just do as slunnie suggests......
this is there to protect the wiring from chafing against anything under the bonnet.....
insulation wise......each wire is insulated in its own coloured sheath.........which is also waterproof.....
I was concerned about heat radiating and cracking the new split tube from the turbo as well as water and or oil getting into the loom due to crumbling split tube.
I'm considering split tube and thermal wrapping it to protect it from the turbo's heat. It may just prevent me from replacing it in the next year or two.
On my V8 the starter motor has a lot of wires running to it as well as the engine loom in the vicinity. These are very close to the exhaust and heat has deteriorated the insulation - its now very hard and brittle. I dont think the normal split loom tubing would do much for it near the heat. Not sure what to do about it, the wires dont seem all that easy to relocate either.
The split tube covering came on the car out of the factory.Originally Posted by mark2
