Pro - External winch brake, runs cooler, higher line speed (not that relevant unless you are in comps), a bit higher so more out of the crap. for wire rope 45m as opposed to 30m (generally)

Cons - Lower rating @ 8000lb but can be modified, higher in the radiator air flow (don't know if it makes any diff though)

A standard ARB low mount bar will generally need to be modified to fit.

No doubt others will have more.

As electric winches go, they're a good thing.

The 8000 lb rating isn't an issue, most times you'll double line it anyway.

Its got 150 ft of cable. Longer than most.

Its got a narrow, but deep drum. Less liklihood of bunching.

It sits higher & blocks the airflow yes, but it also means the motor doesn't get wet in moderate creek crossings.

The main advantage is that it runs in oil. The lowmounts run in grease. The hi-mount will run all day if you can keep the power up to it.

The no-load speed is great. You'll fall asleep waiting for a hydraulic winch to reel in by comparison.

Only real problem I've had is the end cover attachment disintintergrating - ther are some mods around to upgrade this to a circlip or similar.

Other than that, the only problems are the normal electrics in a hostile environment ones. Keep the maintenance up to it. I get mine serviced every year.

And if you want more grunt, theres always the 6hp motor in lieu of the 2.4 hp. Although I was advised not to spend the money.

There are a few articles around about hi-mount mods, its worth doing a search.

    Hi Bryce

The great majority out there wil be 2.4s. Yes there was a later spec with the 4.6, but I don't think he's talking about a new one.

Nah it won't . You just put a block of metal between the winch and the front plate to space the winch back , and then replace the warn bolts with V8 headbolts as they are the same weird ar*e american thread. Asd you can see we fit them to ARB with out any problems

    and my brothers

Go the 8274 (or high mount) love them powerfull and can run plasma as they don't have a drum brake (like most) But if you just want it for a back up winch they something chaeper will do as a bit over kill for that . Unless of course it is cheap

Ali, would you have the room to do that with a aircon, it looks like your truck does`nt have AC.

You have a choice of a Air con ARB bumper or standard. I had the Standard non aircon one

My brother had the Air con one which sticks out a bit further. Well did in the pics below, But did not after we attacked it with an angle grinder. (there we no non air con ones in the uk when he bought his). But the 8274 is fine with the air con as the whole bumper sits forward. Tried to find pics of my brothers sticking a bit more forward. Sorry but these are the best ones i could find

No worries Max, the specs I quoted were off their website on current model. The pamphlet I have also quotes 4.6hp & it's about 2 years old. I thought you may have looked at 24v specs at 2.5hp.
