    Disco Diesel Pump upgrade

    Guys

I have a 98 300TDi (4 Cyl) Disco and I'm considering getting the Diesel pump upgrade.

Apparently the guy in (Melb) puts new pistons in an recalibrates the linkage etc so its more proportional that is fuel delivery vs. pedal position then dyno's
approx another 20 ~ 30 Kw in the old girl which is sorely need sometimes.

    and comments suggestions
    greatly appreciated, thanks

i have had mine tweaked as wiith a quite a few others, no need to upgrade the internals, didn't think you could, as all they need to do is make some adjustment

i am pretty sure when they ugraded mine they did not measure the egt's which i am uncomfortable with. i'm scratching some $$$ together to fit a egt for piece of mind, other than that drivability has increased and next to no extra fuel usage

i payed around the $300 which included a pump adjustment, tappets re-set, new fuel filter and an injector clean

run a search and you will find plenty of topics, tips etc

there is some internal work that can be done on the Tdi fuel pump - ask Bruce Davies as he builds them with all the mods.

    most definetly

more drivable esp taking off in first, holding speed on long hills and general exceleration when changing lanes, merging with freeway traffic

i have also removed the centre muffler $40, not sure how much gain it has given me, i like to think it has but the guys on here indicate it would only be marginal, if nothing slse the exhaust gases would have to be exiting slightly quicker so that might reduce the temp by a couple of degrees

Thanks, just what I need. Notice any difference in economy? Did you get this work done at a certain establishment in Redcliffe?

a slight increase in fuel usage .5 - 1 litre per 100km although i didn't have rock solid figiures prior to the tweak, others have had ended up with a slightly better fuel return

M_R did the job and i had great service and a follow up adjustment two months later which they did while i waited at no cost, cannot ask for more than that.

i had the adjustments made just before my simpson desert crossing, M_R did tell me to bring it in 5-6 weeks prior, i think i took it in about 10 days prior.

i was fully loaded for the trip and returned the following figures even though i was leaving a trail of black smoke everytime i was under load

    Trip (6800km) Average 11.6L/100km
    Trip Best 10.7L/100km
    Trip Worst 13.3L/100km

    Simpson desert Birdsville - QAA - French - Knolls - Rig- Mt Dare - 648km - 78L Diesel - 12.5L/100km

    - on my return i dropped into M_R and they made a slight adjustment at no cost while i waited, less blake smoke slightly less power
    - I think i return around 10.5-11.0L/100km now which i am happy with
    - when i have the $$ i will put in an egt guage to monitor temps and maybe make some slight adjustments myself
