    Madman? Something else?

Now my D2 is done ( sure. ) I want to turn my attention to the OKA. Gauges are sparse, albeit more informative than the stock Disco ones, and so I'm researching what to fit. OKA is a simple beast, with an old school diesel with a VE pump a la 200/300 TDi. So, EGT, coolant temp. oil pressure and low coolant level and maybe pressure alarm. I would like boost as well, but it ain't imperative, as there isn't a whole lot, but I have a new turbo for it so maybe...

Budget is limited. All ideas welcome. Instrument panel/dash is highly customisable......

I love the Madman unit I have put in the Landy 2A Forward Control build I have just finished. It serves as approx. 6 gauges in one unit, saving a LOT of dash real estate. The only two other gauges I need are fuel level and the speedometer. I also use one of the trigger feed outputs in it to activate the cooling fan, saving having to run a separate sensor etc.
    I have readings for
    - Coolant temp
    - Low coolant alarm
    - Oil Pressure
    - Low oil pressure alarm
    - RPMs
    - Battery voltage
    - Boost
    - EGTs
I have one spare input that I was going to run as gearbox or TC temps, but haven't got around to it yet...

I was a bit worried that I would have difficulty reading the small numbers in the display, but it is not an issue now I'm using it.

This is what I found. I too find it a little impenetrable which is why i was asking.

    The videos are more helpful.

I have the madman 2 in my defender. Great unit, very nice to have all the readouts and alarms on one gauge my only complaint that is during the day it's a bit hard to read, but from the look of the EMS3 they have fixed that. There was a guy on here that sold them, i think he had "the entertainer" in his name, can't remember exactly what it was. That's who I bought mine from.

    Madman? Something else?

The Madman EMS gauge is good. Les Richmond Automotive used to sell complete Madman kits with all the sensors as well (and possibly still do).

But it is pricey and probably more suited if dash space is limited or you want an all in one unit. Being able to set alarms points on each sensor is a plus, and it includes a low coolant alarm.

Post a picture of the dash Tins. Do you have any large flat surfaces available to add gauges? Or a gauge pod with 3 or 4 individual gauges on top of the dash may be more cost effective when you have the space for it.

Dash real estate is not a problem. Mine only has a small cluster, but I have one out of the later model I can fit. There is no issue with using individual gauge/alarm setups. There is also an overhead console I am yet to fit. All this is kinda why I asked about :something else. LRE do indeed sell kits, around $700, and the 300TDi one could be almost perfect if there's somewhere on the exhaust manifold for the EGT probe. Gunna be sussing that out when I take the ollldddd turbo off. Need that for whatever EGT/Pyrometer I choose.
The Perky isn't a sensitive engine to temps etc, but still. And I need EGT for the new turbo and adjusting the "smoke screw" on the Bosch pump. I can increase power by almost 70% it seems, but pistons aren't cheap... Might sound silly, but the Phaser was only rated at 110hp, and the OKA weighs 5 tonne. With the 38s I was worried about being overtaken by cyclists on some of the hills around here.
This is the later dash. I don't have the fancy cut hole on mime but that won't matter. I can even fit the older dash as well, so there's a panel all the way across.Give anyone silly enough to be a passenger something to look at.

Mine currently looks nothing at all like these.. The wiring on mine was done by stoned chimps, or Series mechanics. But I need to gut it anyway, so might as well make it better.

I do like old school individual gauges.

The SAAS Muscle Digital series of gauges are a modern retro look that are easy to read and very customisable. They can also be configured to flash and beep when user defined alarm points are hit.

Good point. I have a SAAS boost gauge around here somewhere. I'll find it and see what I can get to match. I'm not too concerned with aesthetics, but the next bloke might be I guess. If a 5 tonne diesel RV isn't verboten by then of course.
