			Resetting the Bonnet catch

I am thinking to myself, what hasn't been asked for a while if ever.
This is one I am having toruble with, the discs, have nothing in them abut it.
My problem, can't open the bonnet alone, someone has to be up the front to pull the bonnet up when I pull the lever,
the spring doesn't seem to be pushing it up, if feels like it is getting caught
how do i go about adjusting it?
I have had one go at it adjusting the lock lever and cable and it didn't change a thing.
Is there something that can be done to the spring on the pointy thing.

					Hi
you could try adjusting the spring by screwing `the pointy thing`a little. not too much or the bonnet will not shut properly.
with a 32mm spanner ,loosen the nut, hold the spanner on the nut and tighten the pointy thing with a large screw driver.
try half-one turn at a time and try the bonnet release again.
All this does is compress the spring more so in effect will spring back more.

Check the safty catch. Mine was getting caught so the bonnet wouldn't close and sometimes wouldn't open. If its catching there will be obvious damage markes on the parts below the catch.

If, after increasing the tension on that spring you still have the same problem - try checking alignment. The three bolts can move around, and the head of the main bonnet catch (on my 95 Disco) has stuck because it hangs on the side of the locking mechanism. Pulling the bonnet up pulls the head over the raised side of the lock and then it's OK. Solution was to aim to get the head of the catch right in the middle of the lock just as the bonnet closes. De-tension the spring before the trial and error part, makes it an easier job. Only unscrew each bolt sufficiently so you can shift the plate around, even though they have captive nuts, if the bolts come all the way off, it's hard to get it all back together.

and having failed all that......we used to adjust them with a hammer.....
it is usually just off centre....you can see which side it is touching by looking at the marks on the centre pin.....
thats the side you need to tap....chances are the pin is already bent......
