IF you are going to get a arb diff lock in the rear i would get better rear axles as the standard rangie ones wont last long
i have a arb locker in the rear of my defender and soon to have maxi axles![]()
Just wondering how many people out there have diff locks fitted to the rear of their vehicles and if they think it was a good investment, as I'm thinking of getting an arb rear air locker for my 83 Rangie

Front and Rear. A rear will make a huge difference.
Also make sure you get a 24 spline axle and locker setup.

Mine already had a Maxidrive locker with the max axels. Great in realy slipery mud of if you have buggered you steering.
Well it sounds like a good idea then, just have to get permission from the boss, or just get one and deal with that problem later, also if I get a 24 spline centre and axles is there anything else that would have to be changed, hubs?
Don't know. Mine is a salsbury diff and I know the guy spend $4500 on all the mods to it.
Dare say the hubs will have to be changed too. Could work out easier if you got hold of an axle out of a disco and used that as they have 24 spline axles. Should bolt straight in.
Two words- MAXI DRIVE![]()
The ARB air lockers as everyone mentioned will need axle upgrade. I had a 10 spline air locker (std axles) and went through 3 sets in 6 months. The start to fatigue and twist and then 'bang' there goes a axle![]()
You will not get much change out of $2K for the complete set and then you'll need fitting. Maxi's wil set you back about $2500 fitted if you DIY and get the actuator mounted to the housing (the only ****ty part of a MD fitup) and the diff set-up professionally, you might get out of it cheaper than I've mentioned.
Nothing wrong with ARB air lockers, just the axles are light-on gfor any sort of 'real' 4WD application Imo.
Good luck with it.

If you get Mal to machine your centres, no need to re-set up the diff (if everything was OK)Originally Posted by aquarangie
