I have a TD5 Defender and my battery light stays on permanently at the moment. The alternator has been tested and is charging OK but the circuit inside the alternator that switches the battery warn light off has failed - thus illuminating the light.
Guess what? You cant simply fix this circuit - apparently new alternator time if I want it fixed - have had this checked out by very competant LR shop. Daz

Hi John
Pretty sure thats what Coopers did. Dont know whether its a parts or servicability issue? Will call another auto electrician and see.
Maybe I've got the same problem as Daz; I measured 12.48V (after being stood for five hours) which rose to 13.95V when running. All connections solid, didn't have time on my break to attack the alternator brushes but perhaps I don't need to now...Could be just a Landy quirk (or personality)?!
