Early lt230 had a 1.003/1 ratio high range but not sure if that can be fitted to the later lt230.
I would be more inclined to change the diff ratio's back to 3.54.
I'm looking at buying a D1 (again).
Problem with it is that it has been fitted with 4.37 Ashcroft diffs ( air locker type).
So these would be good to leave in it.
It is a 5 sp manual tdi running 32's.
It revs at about 2900 at 100kph. This leads me to believe that it has 1.3 high range gear in the TC..unless the tacho is over registering for some reason (pretty sure it has correct alternator and pulley)
Is it viable to replace the high range gear in the transfer case?
Using the Ashcroft ratio calculator, a 1.1 or 1.0 high would bring it back to near standard highway revs.
Opinions?

I was going to say, if you change the transfer, then you can have good reduction in low range which is important in a manual. But on the flip side, although the Ashcroft fanboys will have you believe these CW/P are stronger than any diff on the planet, the reality is that the pinion is getting pretty small with that ratio. I tend to agree with 3.54s or more so a ratio that will suit the 32's.
BTW, I do run Ashcroft kit too, it is good kit, but we just need to keep it real.
Cheers

I would consider selling my MaxiDrive reduction drive LT230 if the right offer arrived..
It would come with a MD rear locker, and, speaking of Ashcroft, a suffix L R380 with less than 30k on it. I'd throw in the rest of the D1*.

OK- I'm getting that forum wisdom might mean I let this D1 go. A lot of the perceived value in it is the new diffs and the lockers ..so to swap them out for standard 3.54's is not that attractive an option..and also pretty expensive although I might be able to sell the 4.37's.
94 300 TDi. Rough. Was a daily for a while. I didn't care about its looks. It has sat for a while. Was always a "gunna", but now life events have overtaken me. Cosmetics aside, I always preferred it to my D2 to drive, especially off road. It has the bones for a good project or as a donor car. I was considering it for a ute conversion. Not currently running, halfway through a timing belt job, all parts for that included.
As I now have certain health complications I need to accept that I'm never going to do anything with it. If you, or anyone else, is interested then I'll talk.
