TD5 ECU brings back pages of faults

My TD5 ECU has been bringing back pages of faults for years now. You clear the faults and then they come straight back. The ecu operates fine - the main downside to this is you can't actually see if there is anything legitimately wrong. It was flashed a long time back. Not sure if that's at all likely to be a cause. I'm pretty sure it's been doing this for many years, although I can't remember when it started or if it did it from new.

I have two ECU's. The other one was the one which came with the car and is nearly new. If I put it in place it does not bring up fault codes other than possibly legit ones. So I'm sure it's the ECU.

Does anyone have any idea what causes this, and or what can be done to fix it? Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated.

EDIT the injector harness has been replaced multiple times and redplug is free of oil although it has had oil in the past.

    What are the faults?

What are the versions on the ECU's?

The ecu's are the later NNN type suitable for my 05 Td5.

Having trouble attaching the photo. You should be able to click on the link and see it. I think there was a second page too.

I can see one page of faults.

Can you find the ECU revisions please and post them here along with the Maps that are on them?

For an 05 defender in Australia they should be:

    For NNN000120 ECU -

    "SVLOE005 SVTNP005"

    or
    "SVLOE002 SVTNP003"

    or
    "SVLOE004 SVTNP003"

    For NNN500020 ECU -

    "SVLOE005 SVTNP006"

It's also possible you could have a NNN500250 ECU, but no factory maps were made for that ECU in a defender, they were D2 only.

So I bought the ECU second hand. I'm not sure where it was from now (18 years ago). Looking at the two of them externally.. there is little on the second hand one. Most of the stickers were removed. The factory one the sticker on the top is fading.

On the front the serial number has been torn off. The only thing that I can spot externally different. So the only two numbers different are the first four numbers.

    Factory 2864 ANGERS NNN500020
Second hand one. 3234 ANGERS NNN500020

I don't have software to tell what map it's using. It was reprogrammed by a forum member ? Tombraider? I thnk? it was done 21/2/07.

I don't think so. It's more of a monitoring application.

Without the info you are stuck.

    1.The ECU could be failing/failed.

    2. It may be the wrong ECU for the vehicle, or as mentioned above, it could be:

    3. the wrong tune for that ECU.

Without further info I can't go any further.

If you can get more info, report back and someone will have a look.
