Someone with a parts manual for this assembly.

Is there a clip or retainer to hold the cable into the backing plate? Part number?

Thanks for the offer. Unfortunately I need to use the cable linkage because of the length of the Isuzu MSA5 x 2 / LT230 in fact I need to get a longer cable made to reach the back of the transmission. If you know the 110 chassis, the back of the drum is only 40mm from the front lip of the cross member behind the transmission.

My RAVE disks wont read on my PC. (neither the Win 11 nor the Win 10 ones) I guess I need updated RAVE disks.
ID use a mechanical linkage, its a lot easier to fabircate and probably cheaper than the cable option.

To get your rave discs to work on your windows 10+ pc make a shortcut on the desktop that runs the RAVE.exe in windows 95 emulation mode.

    Hi Diana,

Here is a diagram and part numbers from British Auto Parts.
It doesn't show the cable, or any sort of retaining clip.
Land Rover Parts - TRANSMISSION BRAKE - DIRECT ENTRY CABLE

Maybe the clip comes with the cable?

I can't find any good views of the cable.

The change over date from rod to direct actuation seems to be about 1994.

Looking at this page, I don't think the clip is incuded:

    Defender Handbrake Cable - SPB500200

    Not shown here, either:

    SPB500200

But is it just a P-clip?

the clip that retains the calbe on the park brake backing plate is part of the cable. Id describe it as a collar more than a clip.

Is it a keyhole shape hole where one pushes it through the big hole and then slides the cable sideways into the narrow part of the slot?

At the moment the cable is not attached at the handle end so the backing plate end slides in and out of the backing plate. so no clip.

I guess it's the consequence of making a Frankenstein Defender with bits from all over the place. An ex-Perentie 4BD1, the LT230 started out in a D1 before the Q gears, it now has Ashcroft ratio chances and D2 cable shift transfer and diff lock and the overdrive is air shift. Does my head in at times. I won't talk about the air suspension.

    Just to give an idea.

The combination is close coupled out of the chassis because, despite many attempts within the constrained space, I was unable to couple engine and transmission together. A bit like doing 5 dimensional chess.

no, its a round hole, you pull the cable through then the collar expands on the other side holding it in.
