Tyre sizes on a County/ Defender

Ok, so I know that standard fitment on a 110 County or Defender is a 235/85R16, or on the older ones a 7 1/2 inch R16 (750R16) and that those are pretty close to 32 inches in diameter. But what about other tyre sizes? How wide can you go without needing wider flares (assuming offset adjusted so that full steering lock is available)? Can 33/12.5/15s be fitted without mods, and of not, what needs modding and how difficult is it?

I think the legal limits on track increase will be the limiting factor - someone quoted the Queensland figure a while back I think - from memory it is 2". This will come in before you need to think about the width of the flares.

I run swamper Q78's which is 36x11x15 & they stick out from
the flares a little & the big lugs only rub on full lock, just.
Rims have a 100mm back space, it works well.
    Great tyres, cheers Jeff

The best size for a 110 is 255/85-16. They are 33" tall, but fairly narrow. Tyre brands are limited though.

I have fitted 285/75-16s (33") on my county on disco rims with 30mm extra offset (about on the legal limit for track increase - 50mm more than stock (110 rims) in total).

With so much extra offset (I had these wheels made for my IIA), the rear tyres rub the top of the flares (where they join the wheel arches) on articulation. Slightly less offset on the rims and they would be fine. I know people who run 255/85s on the same rims (but 15mm less offset) and they work well.
