    Unhappy shudder/surge

    Hi all, just got back from being away for work for a month. Went to a place near Broome in WA. Hadn't been there before. Loved the weather and Cable beach was great. Was good to be back in WA again even if it was nowhere near Perth.

    Anyway...

    A question for the experts. I have been back a week and have now had 3 times where the Disco has started shuddering. I put it into Nuetral and it still shuddered. It seems to happen where i am just slowing down to a set of lights or slowing for a corner. I have stopped each time and turned the ignition off and then started again and it is fine. The last time it happened the whole family was in the car. I said to my wife if this happens when you are driving then do what i have just done. She said Oh that happended to me while you were away. I asked her what she had done ?? she just drove home with it shuddering and then forgot to tell me about it when she got home when she was talking to me on the phone. Spewin....

    So it seems to be some sort of electronic problem, am i right. As in the fuel injection or computer problem. The shudder or surge is constant.

    It sounds like the typical problem which occurs when the shoes in the handbrake are adjusted too close to the drum.

    Assuming the handbrake hasn't been adjusted, perhaps the handbrake lever had not been released fully when the problem occured, or maybe some dust has built-up inside the drum.

    Check your front prop shaft too...

    A vibrating shudder from the DC joint (Transfer case end) can spell $$$$$

    i second the park brake drum. same thing with mine: a slight shudder on deceleration at about 30kms to 0. I adjusted the break and hasn't happened since.

    Easy way to tell is feel the drum after driving, it shouldn't be to hot (to hot that is given the transfer case proximity). Mine was too warm.

    WARNING
    Check it out ASAP.

    If it is the Cardan joint from the front shaft, replace it immediately before it comes apart and slices your transmission up.

    The parkbrake shoes can also cause this as mentioned, try gently pulling the park brake on next time and see if it changes the vibration.

    if its the brake drum......it could be oil on the linings.....

    shudder/surge etc

    It has only happened 4 times now. ie if it was the handbrake wouldn't it be a constant ??? and if it was the hand brake it would stop the shudder when you are stationary!!! My shudder keeps on happening even when you stop and from memory even after i changed gears to Neutral (Auto box).

    It feels like a timing/fuel injection type shudder/surge. As it happens even when stationary.

    Help please, before i start ringing the Land Rover mechanics $$$$$$$
