Why the hell would you fit a Toyota boat anchor when a tdv8 will bolt right in, you'll never get to electrics working properly.

Hopefully the 79 loom is straight forward. Which gearbox and transfer? Actually I think there are 1VD to 8HP adaptors.

8Speed, but it probably isn't to a LandRover 8HP, probably BMW or something like that.

Same engine as the twin turbo, although there were changes over the years.Maybe source the additional parts,as the twin turbo is a better package.
Very common engine,so shouldn't be two difficult.

They are definitely no boat anchor, generally ultra reliable,if serviced correctly like anything mechanical.

One thing though, probably the least of your issues with the change over, they don't like any revs less than 1500RPM,particularly in higher gears.
The TDV6 may run lower revs at highway speeds.
