that it will let you in and not decide that it does not want to , outside coles in a wet winters day. (don't laugh most of them do)![]()
The electrics on them are not the best. If you buy one. The best thing you can do to save you money at a stealership (and belive me you will take it there as they are the only ones who can talk to it). Is to buy a diognotic kit of your own. Mates have done it and saved themselves fortunes. If it is not the locks its the air surpension or the air conditioning or the electric windows
Yeah the 4.0 has a porus block and the 4.6 has problem with the liners coming lose
In the Uk we class the P38 like buying a Horse
Buying them is the cheap bit, and they arn't cheap to buy

Oh!, they're not THAT bad!!!Originally Posted by incisor
Like ALL stuff from Solihull, they are idiosyncratic......and it helps if you're clued up on electronics or are good at informal logic (and formal logic too!)- check the CORRECT definitions in terms of Philosophy - then you can talk to the guys that fix them for you (well, usually)
.....or just ignore stuff that's not warning you of stuff for less than a week/5-8 start-ups![]()
OR just drive it till it dies, won't re-start and battery is totally f###ed from trying to restart or just goes flat from not REALLY being off [ i.e. "asleep" mode] etc and sell it cheap!![]()
Best advice from someone who has one is to have bought it brand new and have had most major stuff fixed for free in beginning [including extended warranty that they didn't have to do] and don't use it for serious trips like going shopping etc - just for taking yourself and wife/partner/ girlfriend and dog to local cafes and restaurants........HEY, IT COULD BE REAL FUN IF THEY all MEET UP!!....sorry, dog knows ALL of them already!![]()
Locking you out isn't a porblem. It's more prevalent on overseas models that have EKA enabled (ours don't).
The earlier GEMS engines are much easier to work on than the post-99 models but the later models have, apparently, fewer electrical problems.
The biggest worry is getting one with slipped liners or having it happen.
EAS can be a problem for some but I've been pretty lucky. You can replace the EAS with coils.
I'd suggest budgetting for a RovaComLite in the purchase cost.
Also budget for replacement of the HEVAC blend motors.
A lot of the issues are addressed on various pages on John Brabyn's http://rangerovers.net/fixindex.html
