We had the Maxxis dealer out at our club for a talk.
If I remember correctly they claim they are made in the same factory as Coopers in the US and are very similar in construction.

Hi tonto73 - did you end up getting the Maxxis 751's?
I'm in the market for new tyres myself and can't decide what to go for. I've got Bridgestone 694 at the moment which are ok but they, BFG AT and Cooper ATR are all around the $250 mark and Maxxis seem pretty good value at <$170.
I can live with the fact I'll probably get less mileage than the others but my main concern is are they ok for performance and reliability? I'm heading up to the Simpson next week and don't want to find out I've skimped on reliability.

Hey guys, im in the same boat. Im looking at getting the Maxxis MA-751 pretty soon (cant really justify spending heaps more on other brands) but just wanna confirm that they are a good tyre (which seems to be the concensus here).

    Cheers,

Maxxis also have the 'Bighorn' tread out and make a 255/85R16 size. Pity I didn't get these, about $70 cheaper than BFG's of the same size

The bighorns are a totally different league to the 751 and the buckshots. They are also much better than any bfg muddie...

The main improvement is in the sidewall strength. The bighorns are an all new construction and much stronger.

Buckshot Mudders are one of the best forward traction tyres i have ever used (have had 37" Maxxis Creepys in the past). But they are weekish in the sidewalls for the real tough stuff.

The 751s are a great all terrain tread and all the maxxis tyres (except the bias) are pretty damn good price.

Ill have a set of maxxis tyres again anyday.

    Cheers
    Anthony

Will be purchasing some in the next couple of weeks. I will definately have the Maxxis at the top of my list to seriously look at. Can't go past the price for supposedly the same type of quality as the others. I think i will try and get a look at the buckshot mudders to compare against the 751's. I only have the 6" wide 16" rims so i'm limited to around 235 wide max.

Will post what i find out and which way i end up going.
