I've looked in my haynes manual and on the rave(rovers are very excruciating(?)) CD and I cant find what the minimum disc thickness for a disco 1 is? Anyone know? My fronts are 12.07mm.

Most newer cars have the minimum thickness marked on them. For those of you who live outside Queensland, up here, when being inspected for a Safety (RWC) Certificate, the rotors are required to be measured, and if below minimum thickness have to be replaced before a certificate can be issued. I am told that some Euros ( Benz, BMW) now are supplied with rotors at minimum thickness, which means they can not be machined and probably need to be replaced about each second change of pads.

12mm front & rear. I concur with Ron although for a moment there I thought it was 11mm.

Well, I better go and change my rears at they are at 12.10mm too.

NO NEED TO REPLACE THEM UNLESS YOU PLAN ON GETTING THEM MACHINED.

Ahh, you need to know how LR think.

Look up Rear Axle & Final Drive, then Repair then Rear Discs, ditto for front.

Replacements have come down in price recently due to high wear rate and therefore high turnover (caused by hard bits in pads). Karcraft have them for around $50ea which means machining is a thing of the past in my book.

Maybe it is just me, but it isn't very often that I see a lot of evidence that thinking is occurring.

Absolutely. Sometimes one has approach the workshop manual with lateral thinking because finding stuff is definitely NOT intuitive.

For example, you'd think brake discs would be under brakes. At least they could have a link from the brakes section to the page where they have hidden the discs.
