    Unhappy smoky TD5

Hello people who know these things! I have a TD5 with 132,000 on the clock.I am glad I am driving it rather than behind it......seems to push out blue smoke, under any effort, most noticeable of course at night in the following car headlights. Not having owned a diesel before I am looking for reasons, ideas anything really to help.

The intercooler might need flushing. It scheduled for 80K (on a Disco at least), although mine had no oil whatsoever at 80K. But mine's a country vehicle.

the earlier TD5 would get oil from the rocker cover the oil seperator was not that good I fitted a modified one from bruce davies no more oil into the inlet system.

Has it been chipped mine did the same thing really noticable on the hills between sydney and wollongong at night I got mine remapped after fitting a larger intercooler no more smoke unless foot is flat to the floor going up steep hill.
disco seriesII mods so far:-bullbar,hyd winch,
detriot locker, lsd front,C.D.L kit, chipped and bigger intercooler,2" lift, rock sliders, lsd in transfer case, modified auto trans.

Was going to say the same, my '99 manual D2 TD5 is chipped and it doesn't take much to blow smoke and like you say, more noticable at night.....mine belches it out especially when you put the boot in. Even un-chipped they will still blow some smoke being a deisel.
'99 Manual TD5 D2.......heap of money spent on it and it has ended
