Not Rover but Holden 5litre EFI advice.

I have the opportunity to buy a VT 5 litre efi motor for my Torana complete with all ecu, looms etc. I have been offered it for $3300. It has apparently done 80,000kms and may be a HSV. Has all hsv intake covers and badging. Is it worth it or are there better deals?
Want to stay with a 5 litre as it is a Holden, do not want a Chev 5.7, but want to be able to run on unleaded too.

If it racks up with all the gear to make it work, I'd reckon that's pretty fair, maybe a tad high, have to see it...and hear it...

But, you'll need a big radiator for the Torana, from what little I know.

If you don't want it I'll put it in he Disco...

    or the X1/9 LOL

Sounds a bit steep to me. Check with a wreckers, not a whole lot of difference in the hsv apart from exhaust and programming, so don't be fooled by that. You'll probably need different exhaust and aftermarket tuners can do the programming no worries.

Edit: check with castlemaine rod shop for a conversion kit too.

Which having just posted and sent the last one, (me not thinking) the good old 308 (w/carby) was the go in the SL/R 5000. Had one of those once, heaviest clutch I've ever pushed, my left knee has never quite recovered....but it didn't have any heating probs...from my distant memory...

    Have fun!

Anyone know of any decent links to check going rates for a VT 5litre efi ?
Or any crate motors floating around ?
While we are at it 5 or 6 speed gearboxes to suit?
    Restoration starting soon hopefully.
Has a 253 in it at present but want something with decent power, driveabillity and able to use unleaded.

    Hi Craig,

I bought my crate VT 5L for $3800 with loom computer & MAF 2 years ago. Id reckon you might be hard pushed today to find one still in the box. Give your local holden dealer a ring and check availability and price this should give some idea of the value on the package you mention.

Have you thought about buying a donor car such as a wreck etc, and parting out whats left to recover costs? This way you could grab the complete front end accessory drive etc to compliment your build. The other thing you will need to consider is the Wiring loom, whilst its supplied it probably will need to be modifided to adapt to the host car ie the Torana. take a look at http://www.injectedholdens.com/ for some ideas.

If it is good, grab it. you can't do a proper rebuild on one for $3000. I saw the same thing go through Police unclaimed goods auction in June for $3800 plus buyers premium.
