    disco back door stuck

    Hello, newby here,
The tailgate/rear door on my discovery 1 won't open. It seems to be unlocking ok but both interior and exterior handles won't release the catch when pulled. If I could get it open I could pull it apart and fix it. Any ideas?

Worst case go in through the back door lining. I'd first try cleaning out the back door handle area as it could be full of dirt, dust etc.

When you do get it open, and you can't find the cause, look at how secure the locking catch on the door itself is. Those countersunk screws vibrate loose, and in mine, the movement of the assembly was sufficient to make the lock not work. And the door vibrate when you drive along. All fixed with a bit of locktite.

    Door Locks

I had the same problem with my disco 1. The spring in the back door lock went slack and the door would not open. The way to open it is to push the door inwards and at the same time slowly pull the door handle. This method worked every time until I had it fixed. To fix the lock, there is no need to pay $250 for a new one, just ring Beechboro 4x4 here in perth (08 9397 0941) as he has had new, stronger springs made that will solve the problem. I have had similar problems with two other doors and have had all the springs replaced now.

It sounds like the "Broken Spring Syndrome". You can hear the actuator work & the knob jumps up momentarily, but the door won't unlock except with the key.

Fixed. It was just dirt from a recent trip down in South Australian deserts. Seems to be working now but if it plays up again will go the stronger spring option from Perth.
    Thanks,
