It is very strange, but Landrover (AKA The Evil Ones) were *supposed* to have checked disks and pads at the last service in June....Wonder how they did it without removing the wheels???
There was Fraser Island sand evident when I took the nuts off and that was 12mths ago, so it appears the wheels haven't been off since before then when I rotated the tyres at 20000km.
Once again thanks for the advice...much appreciated!

At LandRover it not about the quality of work done, its about the quantity of payment made.

    Loosen the nuts.
Take it for a drive (slowly).
Turn the steering wheel from side side to load up the stuck wheel.

with the vehicle on the hoist I can get a 4 inch set of verniers in to give a reading on both pad width and disk width without removing the wheels, I can do it from the ground but then Id get my overalls dirty.

Exclamation When in doubt......FOLLOW MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS!!!

LR's service manuals and the service schedules in Owners Manuals CLEARLY state that you are supposed to make sure that you liberally apply anti-seize compound [ e.g. Hi-Temp grease or copper grease.... etc]to all contact surfaces on backs of alloy wheels EVERY time you replce an alloy wheel back on the axle!!!!!

They even mention that if it's a sudden unexpected flat tyre, then take it off and apply anti-seize AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!!

I've found Duralac compund to be excellent and REALLY long lasting!

    Thank you for this post.

This happened to our Futura about 10 weeks ago, where I did a rotation.

The front alloys were stuck fast; tried the rubber mallet with no success so I put the nuts back on (to finger tight) then undid them about four turns.

It only took about two metres to get the wheels to become loose...

Thanks for the tip about alloys and grease.

My solution envolves a quarter of a stick of gellie, which will certainly solve the problem....once and for all

When had this problem on my 84RR, I sat on the ground under the vehicle and kicked the tyre repeatedly until it came a bit loose, then rotated the wheel and kicked some more. I then used a bit of grease as a preventative.
