Which way round to fit steering dampner?

Dumb question perhaps but which way round do fit a Bilstein steering dampner to a D2 If looking at the front of the car, does the blue plastic boot go to the right or left?

    Thanks

With the Genuine Parts one I notice it's fitted with the "open tube" end (outer) at the lowest point, if it helps, but yours has a boot on it it seems.

This way, would allow the crap/water to drain out.

He's a thinker Yep just fitted it boot to the right which leaves it higher than the other side.

Mick can you decribe the difference with the Bilstein steering damper? I think that I'm due and wanted one that was good - but not the RTC ones.

I can only tell you how it goes on road so far but it basically smooths out all bumps with virtually zero vibration through the steering wheel. Initially it felt wierd and as if I had lost some feel of the road but after driving for the rest of yesterday and today, very happy with it's dampening abilty and the car remains on it's course even when hitting larger bumps in the road - mine used to jump a bit either way when one wheel hit a significant enought bump.

From all the people I spoke to before hand, they all said go Bilstein and I am pretty happy I did....again, huge difference over the OME one which was virtually doing nothing...even after 50K

Hope this helps Slunnie, but as you already know the benefits of Bilstein as a dampner on each corner, you pretty much just need to apply the same logic....I reckon they are bloody good at what they do!!

Excellent, thanks for this Mick. I knew their shockies were great, but I really wanted a good damper for the steering, especially with larger than standard tyres. I guess I didn't really know as they may have valved them anyhow. But they sound good, and it might be time after 90k to finally replace the factory steering damper. Thanks mate.
    Cheers

Yes, good point Slunnie, I suppose that is something to take into account as well. I run 265/75R16 BFG muds and like I said works excellently.

Good luck with it and keen to hear what you end up with and how it works for you.
