Cost to rebuild an S3 2.6L motor??

    Howdy All,
Well after much soul searching (and a few tyre kickers) i've decided to keep the S3 and put it back as close as possible to original condition. Oddly enough it was the recent gift of a Fairey overdrive that decided me to keep going with the project.
So, the question is, the 2.6 litre motor is shagged, 60thou oversize bores that have a few scoures in them, general wear in the bearings but no damage. I've given the bores a light scuff with a hone and they're not extreme, i may get away with a new set of 60 over pistons and rings, but it wouldn't be spot on. A lot of the bearings are worn etc so would have to replace them anyway, so it's a small step to just strip the whole bloody thing down and get it sleeved. Anyone know of a company that would sleeve this motor (it's a bit more difficult due to the sloped block to cyl head face)? Any idea's on the cost? It might just be more $$$smart to buy one in good nick, anyone know of one lying around?
    Thanks Everyone
    Bill

Can't really help - six years ago I saw two reconditioned (ex-army) 2.6 engines in crates go at auction (near Lue) for (from memory) $150 each. They had a great deal of difficulty raising a bid. I nearly bid on one myself, but my trailer was already full! (well, not literally, as I had not started to load it but I knew what I had bought so far, including three complete new 2a rear axles and a radiator, plus a bunch of other stuff)

Sorry if this makes you feel bad, but I suspect that those engines may still be lying round someone's shed(s), as it was clear the bidder(s) did not really need them.

But I've never owned a six, so can't really help

Try the newcastle 4x4 mob, Peter used to own it but I think he sold out,I swoped a 6 cyl (x army in box) for a ZF there a few years ago they may still have it

If not try LVS at silverdale Brian should be able to help

Alternatively my partner has a 6 that came out of a GS still ran sweet as a bell only changed it cuz we had a brand spanker still in the Land Rover box to put in. she might be convinced to get rid of it
