I would recommend you run it past Jack McNamara here in Melb. I had exactly that happen years ago, but if the reason was as stated in that Ashcroft ad, then Jacmac would sure know if its worthwhile.

I think Jeff at Jack McNamaras would have a head explosion if you suggested it. I reckon the solution is fitting a Toyota 8" centre and axles to suit, and I would be that is also JM's solution.

Knowing Jeff, he sure would...
I had him going red as a traffic light once.

Living in WA is great it is akin to being stuck on a lush deserted Island, great place but just too far away...![]()
Well it would work... after all they do it on truck diffs....
but
IMHO for a Landie, thats overkill.. Ive killed axles, spider gears but never the crown and pinion...
Dont show my SWMBO this post, dont want to give her hope that theres an end to the madness.

If you are over-stressing your diff to the point of sufficient distortion to allow the gears to go out of mesh, then why not do the bleeding obvious and fit a 9" Ford. You can get these from any number of suppliers to the hot rod and street machine hobbies.

I'm not sure it is bleeding obvious.
A ford 9" probably wont fit a Rover housing. If you swap the entire axle then the stud pattern dont suit front to rear. If you make a front thats a lot of work.
Toy diffs fit and are strong and conversion axles are easy to get. If you change the whole axles then they are relatively easy to fit and get parts for adaption - pinion flange positions are the same for the tailshafts and front perches line up even for LC60 axles!

The ford 9" would have to be the most adapted diff in the world and there are plenty of custom axles, centre's and housings available but the are bloody big and heavy and overkill on a rover. The hilux centre conversion is ideal as you keep your brakes, wheel pattern and track as per original and it is just about a bolt in conversion.
