There are airbags for occupants, but I don't think that they're connected to the system per se.
There's plenty of owners who've removed them for similar reasons.
I'll go and ask over at disco3.co.uk.
Hey there everyone, as some of you may know we recently recieved a D3 to replace the prado - YAY
now we ordered a V6S and got a SE
now we are happy with the leather trim etc - but we were really looking to use the rear underfloor space in the V6S for storage - does anyone know if the rear 6th and 7th sears are connected to the airbag system, as we want to remove them and replace the floor with a bi fold mdf unit that will allow eay access to under floor level storage....
(we are unable to use the rear sears as we have a cargo barrier fitted)
Mick

Well done on your bonus to start with..![]()
V6S - V6SE nice..
The seat mechanism is just bolted to the floor. It can be removed as a whole unit. The bolts from memory are a T50 torx bit. You can also remove the seat base & seat back cushions from the frame for easier storage. Have fun. Just also remember u need to have access to the rear centre area for removal of your spare wheel, unless u get a swing away or Kaymar unit.
Cheers.
Mick,
No problems, I've taken mine out and they will stay out just take a few hours of fiddling around.
The floor underneath is unfortunately not flat I have yet to sort out some stringers to enable me to fit a flat surface to be a base for my drawers

Dunno if this helps but for my P38A which also has a wheel well, I have done the following:Originally Posted by RichardK
I can post some pics tomorrow - it is a work in progress, I've making it over the past couple of days.
- Fitted a Kaymar wheel carrier so I don't need access to the wheel well.
- Fitted two pieces of Unistrut P4100 channel http://www.unistrut.com/Browse/cat_pg.php?P=S00_Channel across the car. One bolts to the existing tiedowns - the second could have as well but I've fitted it further forward. This has two benefits, they span the wheel well cover and gives a strong support for the drawers and they also lift the drawers (second hand steel commercially made units) so that they can slide over the tailgate. Unistrut was selected as (a) I already had it, (b) it is very strong owing to the cross-sectional design and (c) it allows me to bolt to it anywhere along its length without drilling holes (apart from the hole at each end where it is bolted to the floor) using the Unistrut channel nuts http://www.unistrut.com/Browse/cat_pg.php?P=S00_Ch_Nut
- Replaced the wheel well cover with my own plywood unit which has trap doors that can be lifted from inside the drawer units to access the jack, etc.

The only problem could be a pedantic transport inspector. Qld. Transport are fond of random roadside inspections where they pull over any car over 10 years old, or younger vehicles showing obvious neglect, damage, or faults. I asked QT's modification section about removing the folding rear seats from my County wagon which is complianced as a 9 seat omnibus. I was told that technically the vehicle would then be out of compliance and an engineer's report and modification plate would be required if the removal was permanent. The transport officer said "temporary" removal is OK so make sure that the removal is only "temporary". The kicker is, that if you have the vehicle re-complianced as a five seater, and later wish to put the seats back, then you would have to go through the process in reverse, but meeting any new standards that may have arisen since removal and re-compliancing.Originally Posted by Jamo
So, I have "temporarily" removed the unwanted seats.

We've had people in our club going through this too. I am also going to remove the sixth seat in my six seater Disco 1. I have a cargo barrier and drawers anyway so it can't be used. I have tried to remove it once but couldn't get all those torx bolts out.Originally Posted by Brian Hjelm
I consider it to be a temporary removal as I will be refitting it if I ever sell it.
Excuse me.........but wots a SIX seater Disco 1 look like????Originally Posted by Utemad
.......do you mean you took out one fold-up seat from a 7 seater???
BTW......My 7 seater Disco 1 has "5" stamped on the compliance plate but definitely looks "factory" to me.......What do other guys have stamped on their 7 seaters?
My Disco1 states it is a 6 seater on the compliance plate. The sixth seat is on the passenger side in the back. Exactly the same as a 7 seater except there is a storage bin on the rear driver's side.
It's a base model 1994 yet it has mag wheels, cruise control and the sixth seat.
