    Disco 1 Tyres - again!

    Hi All,

I guess this has been done to death in the past but I don't have time to trawl through all the archives so, if I may: Thinking of going to 245/70R16 on my '97 D1 when the current 235/70's all (by some miracle) are stuffed at about the same time.

Is this a good move? Or is there some other readily available size that does a good job. Not after much lift, want to stay legal (<15mm taller than standard) but would like a bit more rubber sharing the load. Wotchathink?

I recently put on 245/70/16 BFG A/Ts. I didn't have to modify anything.

My car has a 40mm OME suspension lift but I think the 245/70s would fit anyway without any mods.

I had 245/70/16 on my 98 Disco. Not a single problem. They gave a nicer ride than 235/70 on the bitumen and were still OK in gravel (not too much floating). I'm thinking of going 245/75/16 muddies for my next set on my 99.

You may want to consider 225/75/16 if you want to stay strictly legal. They're taller than the 235/70 and only a little narrower (better on dirt roads) and they're light truck construction so they're less likely to get staked.
